Even Moses Outsourced

Sunday, as I was sitting on my couch all comfy and cozy watching hubs and baby girl nap while the boys were contently playing in the bedroom, I took advantage of the quiet and pulled out my Bible. Awhile back I purchased the Family Traditions Study Bible to aide in my effort to make God a bigger part of our family.

Zach and I (and as much as I can get him to, Hunter) are going through the Bible from the beginning. I too am working on reading the Bible in it’s entirety from Genesis to Revelations on my own. Sunday, I began reading where I had last left off in the book of Exodus.

I read through Chapter 18 and after reading it the first time I realized that this particular chapter is relevant to not only our life as a family, but my business as well. You see, I’m making some big decisions in my business here lately and with those decisions comes more work in order to reach my income goals. There’s just one problem with that…

I don’t have enough hours in the day to do it all myself and I REFUSE to lose more time with my family in order to reach those goals. Because of this I’ve been struggling with what to focus on and what things to put on hold or put behind me altogether.  So, when I read this, I was enlightened as to what I need to do.

Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. And let them judge the people at all times. Then it will be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they themselves shall judge. So it will be easier for you, for they will bear the burden with you. If you do this thing, and God so commands you, then you will be able to endure, and all this people will also go to their place in peace. – Exodus 18:21-23

Now, I’ve been outsourcing certain things in my business for awhile now, so realizing I can’t do it all myself is not something new to me. However, realizing I can’t bring on new things (websites, projects, etc.) to grow my business and continue to do what I’ve been doing plus more didn’t sink in right away. Yeah, I’m a bit slow I know. ;-)

So, this scripture has really helped me to see that it’s ok to outsource more in order to better myself, my business and my family. I feel a bit more content with it now, knowing that even a great man like Moses outsourced one of the most important jobs in the history of the world.

My next step is to take some time away from the computer, sit down with my pencil and notebook and really plan (not just talk about it) how I’m going to make this work for the better of everyone involved. I’ll let you know how it goes!
