Hello They Call Me Wahmmy friends! I am your Crafty Wahmmy and today’s craft is all about crayons and your oven.
If you have any spare crayons laying around, broken would work best!, this is the perfect craft for you and your kiddos.
I’ve seen this craft before using a double boiler method (glass pan or jar holding item held in pan with boiling water) but wanted it to be easier for my kids to do a lot of the creating. I was able to make it happen in four easy steps.
1. Unwrap paper from crayons – then break crayons. Little ones love doing this! My son likes to unwrap the paper anyway so he liked doing it on purpose.

2. Put broken crayons into mini muffin tin with whatever colors you want to be together. Don’t worry about matching colors or what looks pretty together. Put brown with any other color, throw a pink in every available section! (That may end up happening anyway if you have a seven year old and five year old helping you like I did.)

3. Put in oven at 200 degrees for about 10 minutes (I did the timer for seven minutes then watched closely)

4. Wait to cool and harden!

Things we learned ~
- Red, pink, orange and yellow are easier to peel
- Red and orange take longer to melt
- Blue, green and purple melt quickly and look like colored water
- It takes just a few minutes for the muffin crayon to cool and set
Since we have so many crayons we are thinking of melting most of them and sending them to my nephews and giving to friends locally.
We are also a homeschooling family and took the time to about temperatures and melting points. The kids have practiced freezing various things (and were surprised that when an ice cube was melted and put back in the freezer, it didn’t magically turn back into an ice cube!) so melted was the natural next step. Of course, this craft does use the oven so be careful!
