I just jumped on the computer to work for a bit before calling it a night when something was telling me I needed to check a few of my mommy blogger friend’s blogs. Well who am I to resist a calling like that?
First I headed over to my longtime friend, Nell’s Casual Friday Everyday and found this post:
Wow! Nell has really found her place in life over the past year or so I tell ya. She is so at peace and it really shows in some of her posts lately. I’m so blessed to have friends like Nell who not only help me out business wise, but most importantly spiritually. Even if she doesn’t know it reading Nell’s posts inspire me so much.
The post above was no exception, but this one really hit me hard tonight. Although I complain and some days I ask God things like “What were you thinking when you made me a mommy? I’m not cut out for this job!” (Especially on days like this one), I know in my heart and soul there is nothing more precious that He could have given me than my 3 kiddos. Instead of complaining about the things they are doing wrong or that I’m not doing right, from now on I’m going to feel proud that he gave me the honor.
So, thank you Nellers for posting that post tonight! Whether you realize it or not, you are helping me sooo much and I love ya for it.
After visiting Nell, I was inclined to check my friend Annette’s, the absolute sweetest person in the world by the way, blog. First, let me share that I’ve known Annette longer than I knew she had the blog whose name alone has made me learn so much since I began reading.
Quiet Mom Although it is labeled Quiet Mom and what I’m about to say is about the actual it is oh so much more about just keeping our mouths shut!
Let’s just say lately, I’ve been nowhere near a quiet mom! Am I proud of that fact? Absolutely not! Instead I seem to have become the mom who yells at her kids more than any mom should. I’ve also, and trust me it kills me to say this, managed to put my business ahead of my children and as much as it hurts to actually admit this outloud it’s true and I realize only I can change it.
Day in and day out I sit and watch my kids longing for attention that they aren’t getting and try desperately to find a balance between work and family. Yes, I believe it exists and with the help of friends like dear sweet Annette and others, I WILL find it.
That my friends is why God lead me to this post where Annette talks about the book Family Driven Faith: Doing What it Takes to Raise Sons & Daughters Who Walk with God. I know with every fiber of my being that’s why! So THANK YOU Annette for posting that post!
By the end of the post, I was in tears and yes, I ran right over and purchased the book. It should be here Monday and I WILL be diving in that very evening. But not until I have tucked my kiddos in bed first!

Awwww… praying for you.
It’s not easy being a mom, let alone being a mom with a home business. The balance is a constant (and I mean constant) challenge - we need each other to help stay on track!
I’ll be eager to hear what you think of the book. I’m going to pull it back off the shelf tonight and glance through it again.

I hear you on the balance Arika! Both my girls recently have told me that I work too much and I feel that constant drive to please others and to always check the email “in case someone needs me.” Well, those someones who need me are my kids, which is why I’m unplugging for 10 whole days on vacation!
No doubt you will find your balance as well.

Arika,
I found my balance by not taking so many clients per week and not feeling guilty if I can’t complete something on time; because guess what, sometimes I just can’t. That’s life.
My daily goal is to take my little man out somewhere everyday. It may be running errands for the house but her loves it. I also take one day a week to focus on the home and him only.
The balance is there you just have to find it.
God is able!

I can so relate to what you are feeling Arika. Like Christina I’m going unplugged for a few days in about a week or so. It’s going to be hard but my kids are more than worth it.

That post from Nell really touched me too. It’s when I read some of the blogs around me that I am so often ’slapped’ upside the head.
I know exactly what you mean about not being a quiet mom lately and yelling more than a mom should. I also know what you mean about putting business before family. UGH it’s so hard to admit but we are humans and we make mistakes. It doesn’t do us any good to beat ourselves up over it.
