As I was killing time waiting on a reply from a potential wahmmy here on Twitter, I received a tweet about this blog post over at Juicy Dreaming Diva. I’d never visited her blog before and honestly I’m not the “diva” type, but the post intrigued me because well I felt like she was talking to me. Not to mention my friend Carrie Lauth made a statement about jogging suits that make you look like pink poop! Yeah I laughed but that’s probably exactly what people see when they see me, just various other colors.
You know we WAHMs love the fact that we don’t have to get dressed up every day for work. We can be comfortable in our big baggy sweats and hubby’s T-shirt or our bunny slippers if we so choose. Yeah it’s nice, but after doing so for days and days, let’s be honest ladies, it gets pretty depressing. Honestly, I can only imagine what people think when they show up at my house and I look like something that just walked out of a dungeon. My house, well it never looks great either, but I’m not ready to let go of the excuse that I hav three kids (two of which stay at home all day with me), running a household and a business! Hey, one thing at a time k?
The worst part…most of the time we mamas don’t even realize that’s what could be causing us to feel all down in the dumps and in a slump that we can’t seem to get out of. Oh no, it’s always something else, the kids, work, hubby, a dirty house, anything at all that we can think of. Anything other than the fact that we look, as hubby pointed out to me the other day, ‘HOMELY”.
Ouch! Yeah those words kinda hurt. Now before you go all crazy on my hubby let me just say that’s totally not like him. He’s not superficial and doesn’t think I should be perfectly put together every day. He isn’t the kind that thinks I should look smokin’ hot all the time and even when I do look bad he still makes sure I hear words of encouragement and love. He lets me know I still got it. So, when he made the comment that I looked homely I was a bit shocked and knew it was time I did something about it b/c if he’s saying it it’s getting out of hand.
But, oh my it’s the time issue. Do I really have the time to add a routine of getting all dolled up every day? My first thought was something along the lines of “There is no way I have time to do that every day. Heck, I’m lucky if I even get the dishes washed every day, let alone make myself as pretty as I did when hubby and I first met.”
You know what though, after reading the post from Juicy Diva, I have to agree with her: “…that funk simply stunk!”
The WAHM funk has got to stop for this wahmmy! Now, I’m not promising that I’ll be model material – heck I never have been and don’t care to be. But, what I am making it a point to do is take pride in myself again.
I am a mom of three, wife, homemaker and an at home business owner, but you know what? I don’t have to look like all of those things are killing me. I take pride in how my kids look. I like it when hubby looks nice, I like a clean house (doesn’t mean it’s always clean but I like it when it is). So, now it’s time for me to take pride in myself again. Time for me to make it a point to at least look like I care what people see when they look at me. Better yet, it’s time for me to like what I see when I walk past that mirror in the bedroom with a basket of dirty laundry in hand.
So, for those willing to admit it – who is with me? Time to get out of the WAHMMY FUNK, ladies? Yeah I think so. Let me know what one thing you’re going to do to dump the funk? Me, I’m going to make it a point to get out of my PJ’s every single day. We’ll work on doing the hair and make up thing once I get that down pat. Baby steps right?

I’m giggling because I feel like I’ve been ‘caught’! I’m sitting here reading this and typing my response in men’s sweatpants that are at least 2 sizes to big and a men’s sweatshirt that again is at least 2 sizes too big. My hair is messy, although I kind of pulled it back, I have no make-up on. In other words I’m looking more homely than human at the moment! lol
Yeah it’s definitely time for me to get out of this funk! I mean hello I’m a 33 year old SINGLE woman. I should be doing something with myself on a pretty regular basis so that I’m ‘prepared’ at all times to ‘meet’ people
Yeah I’m with you on getting out of this funk!

Well I have to tell you that I used to be that homley WAHM. I now get dressed head to toe every morning like I am going out in the business world to work because I feel that just because I work from home does not mean that I should not dress for work every morning.
Yah I am so glad to hear that you guys are getting out of the funk. That is awesome.
